Growing up without an understanding of emotions only deepened the struggles that led to a mood disorder in my early adulthood. Carrying childhood emotions alongside those accumulated over the years made the psychotic break and subsequent healing journey all the more uncomfortable.
The Challenges of Navigating Mental Illness
Living with mental illness in today’s world is no easy feat. From maintaining a job, housing, and other basic needs, to managing medication, doctor’s visits, and therapy appointments—these responsibilities can often feel overwhelming. I’ve found myself torn between the desire to earn money and the resistance to work for someone else, as each job seemed to compromise my core values. As a result, financial stability has been difficult to achieve as I navigated the need to process all of these related experiences.
Finding Healing Through Connection with Spirit
Through meditation, I discovered the power of connecting with an inner guidance system—what I call spirit. This connection became the foundation for understanding where I am in life and what steps to take next without letting mental illness control the narrative. By showing up for spirit, I learned how to show up for myself, without feeling the need to change anything about myself or my circumstances.
The Power of Accepting Ourselves: Overcoming Shame
True healing comes from realizing that we don’t need to change our circumstances or ourselves to find peace. The shame often associated with mental illness isn’t our true reality. By aligning with spirit, we access a sense of peace that enhances mental stability and provides a compass to guide our healing journey. We learn to observe our struggles instead of carrying the weight of responsibility for them.
Reintegration of Life’s Affected Areas
Mental illness affects many aspects of our lives—relationships, careers, creativity, and play. Spirituality offers a roadmap to reintegrate these areas in a healthy, supportive way. Instead of always following the advice of others, we can begin to learn how to follow our own guidance system.
Your Journey to Integration, from Mental Illness to Mental Wellness
Return Home sees you as an individual with experiences that are not separate from the true human experience. We provide you the Spiritual Mental Health Education so you can choose to practice and remember what it’s like to be human without the guilt and shame surrounding mental health. When we take the spiritual path to mental wellness, we actively surrender the emotions, thoughts, and feelings that are holding us back from peace. It’s a remembering that we can rely on spirit (rather than our own cognition) to be responsible for our experience. The biggest thing we are taught from the psychiatric system is to not trust our thoughts and emotions, but what is it like to relearn to trust ourselves and integrate with spirituality in a way that respects our entire existence; physical, mental, and emotional?
